Volunteer Usher Opportunities at Skylight

For more than 50 years Skylight Music Theatre has been Milwaukee’s home for music theatre. Volunteer usher support is vital to our performances at Skylight. Ushers at Skylight have multiple opportunities to volunteer for Skylight Music Theatre performances, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre performances, Constructivist performances, and performances from other rental groups that take place at the Broadway Theatre Center.
If you would like to volunteer with Skylight Music Theatre as an usher, please click on the Usher Guide below to read about the position. If you agree with the terms, submit your information at the volunteer usher contact form below. You will receive a confirmation email with next steps and upcoming opportunities. If you have additional questions, check out our Usher FAQ Guide underneath the contact form or email our Lead House Manager Cat Sadler at CatS@SkylightMusicTheatre.org.

Join us to usher throughout the season! To sign up, fill out the contact form to join our Volunteer Usher program, and our Lead House Manager will reach out with more information. Ushers who previously used the Signup Genius system will be grandfathered over to the new system.

How Do I Cancel a Shift?
If you need to cancel your scheduled shift, please email Lead House Manager Cat Sadler at CatS@SkylightMusicTheatre.org. Cancellations must be emailed at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled shift to count as excused.
Can I Bring a Guest?
Yes, ushers may sign up to usher with 1 guest. The usher signing up assumes responsibility for their guest following all policies of Skylight Music Theatre. If you are no longer bringing a guest, please contact Lead House Manager Cat Sadler at CatS@SkylightMusicTheatre.org to remove them from the signup.
I Am On The Waitlist. How Will I Know If I Am Called In?
Whenever possible, a waitlist will be made for all shows available to ushers. If a slot opens for a performance you are wait-listed for, you will be contacted via email to notify you that your name has been moved to the sign-up list. If it is less than 24 hours to the performance, all ushers on the waitlist will be contacted to see who is available.
I’m Not Scheduled to Usher. Can I Still Come In?
If an event is full, it is at the discretion of the House Manager on Duty if they will accept non-scheduled ushers to help with the performance. You may be turned away from ushering and asked to purchase a ticket for the show if you still wish to attend.
What is the Usher Dress Code?
Ushers of all gender expressions are required to follow the same dress code:
-
Black and/or white top.
-
Black and/or white slacks, dress pants, or skirts. Skirts must end just above the knee or have tights.
-
Black and/or white closed toe shoes. Shoes must be walkable for aisles and stairs.
-
Black or white jacket is optional.
-
Black or white tie is optional.
When Does My Shift Start?
Ushers are required to be at the theatre 1 hour and 5 minutes prior to the performance time. This gives all ushers a 5-minute buffer period to find parking, purchase parking passes, use the restroom, etc. prior to the usher meeting beginning. The usher meeting begins promptly 1 hour prior to the performance time.
